A vacation from a vacation may be what is needed. Too much traveling as of late for me, and trying to help others out instead of tending to myself. Sometimes you need to take care of yourself no matter how much you don’t feel like it. I met some cool people this month, test rode some new motorcycles, and checked out some new places. Hit up some new Japanese hibachi restaurants mm’ mmm’ good, and had my fill of seafood for the month. And after an on-going search for the best all-natural BBQ sauce, I finally found one! I almost passed it up on the Whole Foods Market store shelf due to the slick packaging and marketing of the flask shaped bottle, but for the first time, the quality of the contents matched the outward packaging. Rufus Teague Barbecue Sauce – Honey Sweet is made in Kansas City and it is absolutely amazing mouth-watering honey BBQ sauce, I highly recommend it! Another great all-natural BBQ sauce I have been using for years is Billy Bee Honey Barbecue Sauce that just happens to be made up north in Canada. This month I also ran across big named global brands that are using new marketing tactics to get their product and brand out there to be more like specialty products, such as the slick GUCCI boat and J. Crew partnering up with Nike and New Balance to make exclusive footwear. Smart decision partnering up, but I thought of that concept years ago while designing for Adidas America in SoHo NYC. I am always surprised why it takes companies with deep pockets so long to execute ideas like this. Maybe they need better Creative Directors at the helm?
